During the holiday enforcement period, which started at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 24, and lasted through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 27, troopers responded to 7,540 calls for service and arrested 20 motorists for alleged impaired driving.
In total, there were 2,242 tickets issued to motorists, including 607 for speeding and 448 for seatbelt violations. Other tickets were issued for unsafe lane changes, following too closely and distracted driving.
Troopers also investigated 341 reported crashes, including 52 with injuries and one that resulted in a fatality.
Last year, troopers issued a total of 2,708 tickets during the Memorial Day Weekend holiday, including 909 for speeding and 396 for seatbelt violations. There was a total of 38 DUI arrests, 313 crashes, with 62 resulting in injuries.
